At 3 p.m. on the day after tomorrow, I will vacate my home and turn myself in. At a press conference today, Mr. Kejriwal stated, “We are fighting against tyranny, and if I have to give my life for the country, don’t mourn.”

ED opposes Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail plea, says he has gained one kg weight; next hearing on June 5

In a video statement on Friday, Arvind Kejriwal said he will surrender before Tihar jail authorities on June 2 as ordered by the Supreme Court. The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday opposed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking extension of interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court last month.

The Enforcement Directorate claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief has made false statements about his health. The agency, which arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in the Delhi excise policy case, refuted the leader’s claim that he has lost six kilograms since being in jail. The Delhi court deferred the hearing of the case to June 5, which means Kejriwal will have to surrender before Tihar jail authorities on June 2 as ordered by the Supreme Court. Addressing the people of the country on Friday, Kejriwal claimed that sudden weight loss could be a sign of a serious illness.Kejriwal requested an extension of his provisional bail from the Supreme Court.

However, the Supreme Court’s office refused to accept his plea and said he was at liberty to approach the trial court for regular bail. Later, the Delhi Chief Minister applied for regular bail in Delhi’s Rouse House Court. Referring to Kejriwal’s claim that he needed seven days to undergo several medical tests to rule out the possibility of illness, the Enforcement Directorate argued in court that the former concealed the nature of these tests.

India brings back 100 metric tonnes of gold from UK, fills RBI vaults

This is one of the largest movements of gold made by the country since 1991, when it was moved out of India as a result of pledging of a large portion of gold to deal with a foreign exchange crisis.

Mumbai: According to sources today, India transferred 100 metric tonnes of its gold that was kept in UK vaults to domestic vaults in FY24.
This is one of the largest movements of gold made by the country since 1991, when it was moved out of India as a result of pledging of a large portion of gold to deal with a foreign exchange crisis.

According to official data, the country’s total gold holdings increased by 27.46 metric tonnes to 822 metric tonnes in FY24.

According to sources who spoke with Press Trust of India, a significant amount of the valuable commodity is kept overseas. They also mentioned that India, like other nations, maintains its holdings with the Bank of England.

The movement of 100 metric tonnes of gold to India has taken the total quantity stored locally to over 408 metric tonnes, meaning local and foreign holdings are now almost equally divided. Over 308 metric tonnes of gold is kept to back notes issued in India, while 100.28 tonnes is held locally as assets of the banking department, according to thethe central bank’s FY24 annual report, which was made public on Thursday. Of the total gold reserves, 413.79 metric tonnes are kept abroad, the annual report said. Given the gold purchases in the past few years, it was decided to reduce the holdings abroad which is part of standard review processes, sources told Press Trust of India. In 2009, India bought 200 tonnes of gold from the International Monetary Fund and since then it has been buying the precious commodity from the secondary market as part of its foreign exchange asset diversification efforts.

‘Zero Zeno’: OpenAI report says Israeli firm tried to interfere in Lok Sabha elections, ran anti-BJP agenda

New Delhi: OpenAI’s investigation has revealed that Israeli company STOIC tried to interfere in the recent Lok Sabha elections in India by running an anti-BJP agenda. This covert influence campaign, called “Zero Zeno”, was part of a larger effort by the firm to influence public opinion in various regions, including Canada, the United States, Israel and Ghana.

The campaign used artificial intelligence (AI) to create web articles and social media comments, which were then disseminated on multiple platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and X. The content was aimed at audiences in India, including criticism of the ruling BJP party and praise of the opposition Congress party. The campaign was detected and disrupted less than 24 hours after it was launched

Trump hush money trial: The verdict has made Trump the first criminally convicted former US president but has not prevented him from contesting for a second term.

Donald Trump has become the first former US president to be convicted of a crime after a New York jury found him guilty on all charges in the hush money case, just months before the election after which he could return to the White House.

The jury found him guilty on each of the 34 counts of manipulating business records to hide payments made to silence porn star Stormy Daniels. In theory he could be sentenced to four years on each count but is more likely to get probation.

The 77-year-old Republican, who was released without bail, is now a convicted felon – a historic and shocking first in a country where presidents are often described as the most powerful people in the world.

That hasn’t stopped Trump, however, from continuing his fight to unseat President Joe Biden in November — even if he has to go to jail. And he immediately objected.

“I’m a very innocent man,” Trump told reporters, vowing that the “real verdict” would come from the voters. He called the trial “rigged” and “disgraceful.”

In a statement, Biden’s campaign claimed that the trial demonstrated that “no one is above the law.” “Trump poses a threat to our democracy that has never been greater,” it continued.

Judge Juan Merchan set a sentencing date for July 11 — four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump is scheduled to receive the party’s formal nomination

Mallikarjun Kharge predicts 128 seats for Congress, backs Rahul Gandhi for PM

According to the Congress chief, members of the opposition party India Bloc led by the party were successful in transferring their votes to each other.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in an interview to the media on Saturday, a day before the seventh and final round of polling, said that the Congress party expects to win 128 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and is confident of preventing the BJP from winning a third consecutive term at the Centre.

Mr Kharge said Rahul Gandhi – who led two ‘Bharat Jodo Yatras’ before the election and campaigned extensively during the polls, often sharing the stage (and dining) with colleagues andtaking direct aim at Prime Minister Modi—would be a well-liked candidate for the position.

The Congress chief, who in the past has dodged questions about Mr Gandhi’s credentials and India Bloc’s refusal to name a prime ministerial candidate, said, “Rahul Gandhi is my choice to be prime minister… He is my choice and he represents the youth and every nook and corner of the country.”

Water crisis in Delhi: Delhi government petitions the Supreme Court to release water from Haryana immediately

Water crisis in Delhi: Delhi government petitions the Supreme Court to release water from Haryana immediately

Recently, the Delhi government has moved the Supreme Court seeking directions to the state of Haryana to release water immediately for the beleaguered national capital. Citing the scorching heat conditions prevailing in north India, particularly Delhi, the plea states that there has been an extraordinary and excessive increase in the demand for water in the capital. Despite all possible administrative measures being taken by the government to ensure optimization, rationing and targeted supply, the capital is facing acute water shortage. As such, there is a need for additional water supply.

Further, it states that Delhi, being a low-lying riparian Union Territory, is seeking additional water supply through the instant plea in view of the emergent situation arising out of the dry, arid summer this year. This is without prejudice to any inter-state water dispute and/or the capital’s claim on shared water resources, as well as is intended as a temporary arrangement till the onset of the monsoon season or the temperature in the city subsides.

The petition points out that the State of Himachal Pradesh has agreed to share its surplus water with Delhi. But, it does not share physical boundary with the Union Territory, and thus, the water is required to be routed through the existing water channels/river systems in the State of Haryana, to ultimately be released to Delhi at the Wazirabad Barrage.

In this backdrop, the petition states that the Delhi Government has made a request to the State of Haryana, but the State of Haryana has not yet acceded to the same. Accordingly, directions are sought so that the State of Haryana extends its cooperation and releases water to Delhi, including the additional/surplus water agreed to be released by Himachal Pradesh.

The petition highlights that the national capital is home to a large number of migrants from across the country, including from the neighbouring States of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Thus, Haryana has a reciprocal obligation to assist in resolving Delhi’s water and sanitation crisis.

A large portion of the workforce resides in Delhi, and thus, the water crisis may have ramifications on the responsibilities of workers across the country.

Earlier today, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to social media platform ‘X’ to say that the amount of water supplied to the capital by neighbouring states has been limited. He urged the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in power in UP and Haryana, to ask their leaders to keep politics aside and supply additional water to Delhi for a month.

Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party, which is in power in Delhi, has accused the BJP-led government in Haryana of not giving Delhi its share of water since May 1.

Amid the water crisis, Delhi’s Jal Minister Atishi Marlena issued an order last Wednesday stating that a fine of Rs 2,000 will be imposed on anyone found wasting water. Additionally, 200 teams were deployed from May 30 to prevent (i) washing cars from pipes, (ii) overflowing of water tanks, and (iii) use of domestic water supply for construction or commercial purpose

Arvind Kejriwal to surrender on June 2, claims’ symptoms of serious illness’

When I was in jail, they tortured me in numerous ways. They stopped my drugs. I do not know what these people wanted. Why did they do this?”

He suspected that the weight loss could be a symptom of some beginning complaint. “When I went to jail, I weighed 70 kg, but now I only weigh 64 kg,” Kejriwal stated.. Indeed after being released from jail, my weight isn’t adding . Croakers are saying that this can also be a sign of some serious complaint in the body. numerous tests will have to be done.” The Aam Aadmi Party chief said that he’ll leave for Tihar Jail from his house at 3 pm.
