ED opposes Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail plea, says he has gained one kg weight; next hearing on June 5

In a video statement on Friday, Arvind Kejriwal said he will surrender before Tihar jail authorities on June 2 as ordered by the Supreme Court. The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday opposed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking extension of interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court last month.

The Enforcement Directorate claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief has made false statements about his health. The agency, which arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in the Delhi excise policy case, refuted the leader’s claim that he has lost six kilograms since being in jail. The Delhi court deferred the hearing of the case to June 5, which means Kejriwal will have to surrender before Tihar jail authorities on June 2 as ordered by the Supreme Court. Addressing the people of the country on Friday, Kejriwal claimed that sudden weight loss could be a sign of a serious illness.Kejriwal requested an extension of his provisional bail from the Supreme Court.

However, the Supreme Court’s office refused to accept his plea and said he was at liberty to approach the trial court for regular bail. Later, the Delhi Chief Minister applied for regular bail in Delhi’s Rouse House Court. Referring to Kejriwal’s claim that he needed seven days to undergo several medical tests to rule out the possibility of illness, the Enforcement Directorate argued in court that the former concealed the nature of these tests.
