Will take over as Team India’s new head coach from Sri Lanka series: BCCI secretary Jay Shah

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah said on Monday that the Indian cricket team will have a new head coach for the limited-overs series that begins in Sri Lanka later this month. However, he did not disclose the identity of the person selected to succeed departing head coach Rahul Dravid.

Former opener Gautam Gambhir is expected to replace Dravid as India’s head coach.In addition to conducting interviews, the Cricket Advisory Committee has identified Gambhir and former India women’s coach W.V. Raman as candidates for the prestigious role.

Shah, who toured the Caribbean with the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup title on Saturday, said the appointment of a selector will also be made soon. In the final, they won by a score of seven runs over South Africa.

Referring to the Zimbabwe tour starting on July 6, Shah told select media, “Both the coach and the selector will be appointed soon. The CAC has conducted interviews and shortlisted two names and whatever decision is taken after reaching Mumbai, we will work accordingly. VVS Laxman is going to Zimbabwe, but the new coach will join the Sri Lanka series.” The Indian team will tour Sri Lanka for three T20 and as many ODI matches starting on July 27. The presence of senior players helped India win Shah expressed his happiness on India winning the ICC title after 11 years here on Saturday. He praised the efforts of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who played match-winning innings in the final.
