The expression that Musk used on his owned social media platform X is usually used after a tennis match to indicate that a competitor has won. In a separate post, he said that the people of America have given Trump a “clear mandate for change tonight.” Earlier today, Musk, who has backed Trump, announced his intention to spend election night with the former US president.

Donald Trump gains lead over Kamala Harris
Donald Trump has won several strongholds including Florida, while Kamala Harris has won several eastern states. US networks have projected Trump winning 23 states and his 60-year-old rival 11.

They are also ahead in six of the seven swing states that hold the key to the White House. North Carolina has been called in Trump’s favour and he is also ahead in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Georgia. The lead is yet to be revealed in the swing state of Nevada.

All private property cannot be taken over by government: Supreme Court

In a landmark judgement today, the Supreme Court held that not all privately owned properties are community resources that can be taken over by the state for common good. A nine-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud delivered the verdict on the contentious issue by a majority of 8-1.

Three judgments were written – the Chief Justice wrote a judgment for himself and six colleagues, Justice BV Nagarathna wrote a concurrent but separate judgment and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia dissented. The bench comprised Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Hrishikesh Roy, Justice Nagarathna BV, Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Justice JB Pardiwala, Justice Manoj Mishra, Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice SC Sharma and Justice AG Masih.

The case deals with Article 31C of the Constitution which protects laws made by the state to carry out the Directive Principles of State Policy – the Constitution lays down guidelines for governments to follow while making laws and policies. The laws protected by Article 31C also include Article 39B. Article 39B states that the State shall direct its policy to ensure that the ownership and control of the material resources of the community are distributed in such a manner as best to subserve the common good.

Following the Canada Tabernacle incident, Modi denounces violence.

Following the Canada Tabernacle incident, Modi denounces violence.

In a growing political spat with Canada, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has denounced “destardly attempts to blackjack our diplomats.”

Last month the two countries expelled each other’s top envoys after Canadian officers indicted India of engaging in violent acts targeting Indian dissentients on Canadian soil, which the country has denied.  After violence broke out at a Hindu tabernacle in the Canadian megacity of Brampton on Sunday in what he described as a “deliberate attack,” Modi offered his thoughts. Similar violent incidents will not lessen India’s resolve. We anticipate the Canadian government to insure justice and uphold the rule of law,” he wrote on Twitter. Original police said three people had been arrested and charged so far for the incident in Brampton, near Toronto, but did n’t give farther details.

The force said its officers were” laboriously probing several cases of illegal conditioning”. Unconfirmed vids posted online showed people carrying unheroic flags of the Khalistan movement which seeks a separate Sikh motherland in India- colliding with others holding Indian flags. India’s foreign ministry said” crazies and secessionists” were behind the violence, calling on the Canadian government to” insure that all places of deification are defended from similar attacks”. Meanwhile, North America- grounded activist group Sikhs for Justice described the incident as an” unprovoked violent attack on peacefulpro-Khalistan protesters”. Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter that Sunday’s violence was” inferior”, adding that” every Canadian has the right to exercise their religion freely and safely”. Relations between India and Canada have deteriorated since Ottawa indicted the Indian government of being behind the 2023 payoff of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a naturalised Canadian citizen who has been labelled a terrorist in India.

India has explosively denied this and other allegations and says Canada has handed no substantiation to support its claims. Mr Nijjar has been a oral supporter of the Khalistan movement and has also intimately campaigned for it. Concerns have been raised regarding how the rift between Canada and India will affect the two nations’ close immigration and trade relations. Bilateral trade is worth billions of bones
and about 1.7 million people of Indian origin live in Canada. Neither of the two countries has yet assessed tariffs or other profitable forms of retribution, but experts advise that could change and the cooling relationship between India and Canada could hinder farther profitable growth.

US Election 2024 News Live Updates: Washington State Activates National Guard in Case of Election Violence; Trump tries to undermine 2024 election process again

House Speaker Johnson said GOP might try to repeal CHIPS Act, then walked it back
House Speaker Mike Johnson said Friday that Republicans would “probably” try to repeal the law that boosted the production of semiconductor chips in the U.S., a statement he quickly tried to walk back and say he would instead seek to “streamline” it.

Johnson made the initial remarks while campaigning for an incumbent New York GOP congressman in a district that is hoping for a big new Micron semiconductor manufacturing plant.

A reporter asked Johnson if he would try to repeal the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, which Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump denounced last week. “”We haven’t developed that part of the agenda yet, but I expect we probably will,” Johnson said.

Democrats quickly reacted to the Republican speaker’s comments, warning that it shows how Johnson and Trump are pushing an aggressive conservative agenda that is also intent on eliminating popular government programs. The CHIPS Act has created hundreds of thousands of employment and hundreds of billions of dollars in investment, according to the White House. Vice President Kamala Harris has touted the law during the campaign as proof that Democrats can be entrusted with the responsibility of the U.S. economy.

Donald Trump gambles with last-ditch trips to Democratic New Mexico and Virginia
Donald Trump is traveling to New Mexico and Virginia in the final days of the campaign, taking a risky detour through seven battleground states to spend time in places where the Republican presidential nominee hasn’t won in decades.

The former president was expected to travel to Salem, Virginia, on Saturday after campaigning in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Thursday.

Trump’s team is projecting optimism based on early voting numbers and thinks he can be competitive against Democrat Kamala Harris in both states — especially New Mexico, if he wins swing states Nevada and Arizona. That optimism comes even as neither New Mexico nor Virginia have been carried by a GOP candidate for the White House since George W. Bush in 2004.

In the event of election-related violence, Washington state deploys the National Guard.

Washington state’s governor said Friday he is activating some National Guard members to be on stand-by following information and concerns about potential violence related to the 2024 election.

The state, where Democrat Kamala Harris is easily expected to defeat Republican Donald Trump according to polling, was one of two states where ballot boxes were set on fire earlier in the week.

Early voting is available for Washingtonians and more than 2 million people have already cast their ballots, according to the Elections Lab at the University of Florida.

In a letter posted on his website Friday, Governor Jay Inslee stated, “Given the general and specific information and concerns regarding the possibility of violence or other illegal activity related I want to make sure we are ready to respond in full to the general election in 2024.”

Trump is using election falsehoods to challenge the results of the 2024 election if he loses
Donald Trump has spent months laying the groundwork to challenge the results of the 2024 election if he loses it — just as he did four years ago.
At each event, he exhorts his followers to win an election that is “too big to be rigged,” stating that Democrats’ cheating is the only way he can lose.

Trump proclaimed victory from the White House too soon in 2020. He launched a legal and political effort to overturn his loss to Democrat Joe Biden that culminated with his supporters storming the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Democrats fear he could do something similar this year before the election is called. He did not answer a question about Democratic concerns in Dearborn, Michigan, on Friday, instead focusing on attacking Vice President Kamala Harris.

Opposition hits out at Yogi Adityanath government over Bahraich encounter: ‘Law and order has collapsed’

Opposition hits out at Yogi Adityanath government over Bahraich encounter: ‘Law and order has collapsed’

The opposition on Thursday criticised the Uttar Pradesh government over the encounter of suspects linked to communal violence in Bahraich.

Five people allegedly responsible for the Bahraich violence were arrested after an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh police, of which two sustained bullet injuries.

According to the police, the accused were trying to flee to Nepal, which borders Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district.

Reacting to the encounter, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Yogi Adityanath-led government was carrying out encounters to hide its failure.

“This incident was an administrative failure. The government is carrying out encounters to hide its failure… If encounters would have improved the law and order situation in the state, UP would have been far ahead of most states… If permission was taken for the procession, why was it not taken out peacefully? If they cannot handle such a small event, how can they be expected to protect law and order in the state…” Akhilesh Yadav told reporters, according to ANI

India in a diplomatic dispute: “Canada will extradite Bishnoi gang members”

Amid the ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Canada, India has raised concerns over Canada’s way of dealing with criminals linked to organised crime. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal today alleged that Canada is reluctant to extradite individuals linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a notorious criminal organisation based in India, which is involved in crimes in Canada.

“We find it very strange that those whom we asked to be deported, the Canadian police are now claiming that these people are committing crimes in Canada, for which India is being blamed,” Mr Jaiswal said. According to confirmation from the United States, this person is “no longer employed by the Government of India.”

Since September 2023, diplomatic relations between India and Canada have deteriorated, primarily triggered by the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly accused India of involvement in the killing, which India has categorically rejected. During a recent press briefing, Mr. Jaiswal reiterated India’s stance, stating that there is “no evidence” connecting the Indian government to Nijjar’s murder, despite several accusations from Canada.

“We have made our position very clear through various press releases. Since September 2023, no evidence has been provided, and just last night, we issued another press release reiterating our stand,” Mr Jaiswal said. “So far Canada has not provided any evidence to support their allegations. Their allegations are politically motivated. There is this clear pattern of defaming India, for reasons best known to them.”

Apart from rejecting the allegations, India recently withdrew its diplomats from Canada citing security concerns, followed by Canada expelling several Indian officials, further straining the relationship.

“We value our strong trade ties and people-to-people ties with Canada, especially given the large number of Indian students in Canada. But the current situation is entirely caused by the Trudeau government,” Mr Jaiswal pointed out, adding that Canada benefits from these ties, and India has shown restraint despite provocative steps taken by Ottawa.

Former RAW officer ‘no longer employed’
In the same context, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) today named a former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer, referred to as ‘CC1’, in its indictment for the failed plot to assassinate another Khalistani terrorist, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. According to confirmation from the United States, this person is “no longer employed by the Government of India.”

Donald Trump calls tariffs his favorite subject in interview, says ‘it’s the most beautiful word in the dictionary’

Donald Trump calls tariffs his favorite subject in interview, says ‘it’s the most beautiful word in the dictionary’

Donald Trump took advantage of an opportunity on Tuesday to explain his argument that imposing heavy tariffs on foreign goods would be akin to economic elixir — he claims it would raise huge sums for the government, protect American firms from foreign competition and induce foreign companies to open factories in the United States. Appearing before a friendly audience at the Economic Club of Chicago, the Republican presidential candidate repeatedly insisted that tariffs are misunderstood as an economic tool.

“To me,” Trump said, “the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariffs. It’s my favorite word. It needs a public relations firm.”

If tariffs need an image makeover, it’s probably because mainstream economists say they’re actually the equivalent of a tax on American consumers, which would make the economy less efficient and drive up inflation in the United States.

Bloomberg News editor-in-chief John Micklethwait, the moderator, often struggled to keep the conversation focused on economics and business. For example, when asked if the government should break up Google after the antitrust case, Trump started talking about fighting voter fraud in Virginia and how, in his view, Google treated him unfairly.

Over and over again, Trump steered the interview back to familiar ground, repeating old stories and talking about immigrants, voter fraud and transgender athletes. He also used a fake foreign accent to recount his dealings with French President Emmanuel Macron and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

As president in a second term, Trump said, he would use the threat of tariffs to extract concessions from foreign leaders. He has proposed imposing tariffs of up to 60% on goods coming from China and up to 20% on all other goods imported to the U.S. At times he has threatened to impose even higher tariffs on businesses based in Mexico and on U.S. companies considering moving abroad.
