What is the “DDOS attack” flagged by Elon Musk that impacted Donald Trump interview?

Tech tycoon Elon Musk has reported that X was the target of a “massive DDOS attack” that interfered with the broadcast of his interview with former President Donald Trump. Trump was supposed to be interviewed by Musk this morning, which would have been his first appearance on the microblogging site before the US presidential elections in November.

The Tesla chief said that in a worst-case scenario, the platform will allow only a small number of live listeners and post the conversation online later.

“It appears that X has been hit by a massive DDOS attack. Working on shutting it down. In a worst-case scenario, we will proceed with a reduced number of live listeners and post the conversation later,” the Tesla chief said in a post as the interview missed its scheduled time.

What is a DDOS attack?

DDOS attack stands for “Distributed Denial-of-Service Attack” which disrupts the normal traffic of a targeted server or network by flooding the target or its surrounding infrastructure with internet traffic. According to the firm, “DDoS attack stands for ‘Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attack’ and is a cybercrime in which the attacker causes a surge in internet traffic to a server so that users are denied access to online services and sites.”
