UP bans sale of ‘Halal products’

According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration launched a crackdown on halal-certified items in all 75 districts on Monday, one day after declaring a ban on them across the state.
The ban order covering the production, storage, distribution and sale of all halal-certified food products meant for export was imposed claiming it was a “parallel system that created confusion about the quality of foods”. Did”.
Officials said the raids being conducted at shopping malls, grocery stores and other retail outlets are being monitored from the state headquarters of the Food Safety and Drug Administration in Lucknow.
Divyanshu Patel, additional commissioner of the state Food Safety and Drugs Administration, said, “The order that halal-certified products should not be sold was circulated to all field units. We are compiling reports coming from all the districts.”
