Rahul Gandhi takes oath as MP with ‘Bharat Jodo’ slogan and Constitution in hand

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, took the oath of office as a member of the Lok Sabha this afternoon, holding a copy of the Constitution and chanting “Bharat Jodo.”
Mr Gandhi has been elected from two seats – Wayanad and Rae Bareli. He has vacated the Wayanad seat, which will now be contested by his sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

I, Rahul Gandhi, having been elected a member of the Lok Sabha, do solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties which I am about to assume. Mr. Gandhi remarked, “Jai Hind, Jai Samvidhaan,” as he took the oath.

The Constitution booklet has emerged as a familiar sight in this Parliament session with Opposition party MPs raising the booklets in a protest yesterday. Several Opposition MPs have posted pictures on social media in which they are seen holding Constitution booklets. Speaking to the media yesterday, Mr Gandhi said the Opposition would not allow the government to “attack the Constitution”.
