Donald Trump, MAGA followers react to Kamala Harris’ DNC speech: ‘Will never be my president’

Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was closely watched by her rivals. While Donald Trump commented live on Harris’ speech on his platform, Truth Social, his supporters and other MAGA Republicans also let it be known that they don’t like her.

Harris used the DNC platform to take aim at ‘non-serious person’ Donald Trump, calling the consequences of his actions a ‘serious’ threat to the US. She said Trump’s prior willingness to violate the law indicated he was likely to be reckless in a second term if he is re-elected to the White House. The judgment against Trump in the E Jean Carroll case and his conviction in the fraud case in New York were mentioned by the former prosecutor.

“Consider how Donald Trump would use the enormous powers of the US presidency, in the absence of any safeguards, to serve his one and only client—himself—rather than to improve your lives or the security of our country.” Harris cautioned. During a live video broadcast on his Truthout social media account, Trump asked, “Is she talking about me?” in response to the comment. Following her speech, Harris moved to a different area of the United Center where she gave a quick speech to a gathering of employees and attendees at the postconvention speech party.

On the tenth anniversary of her and her husband Doug Emhoff’s marriage, Harris accepted the Democratic presidential nomination. “We just decided we would celebrate our anniversary with all of you,” she said. Former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin and former The View co-host Desiree Rogers were present at the party. “This has been a great convention,” Harris said, “and let’s celebrate tonight.” “Our fight is deeply and genuinely born of a love of country,” Harris continued.

Arvind Kejriwal’s bail request in the CBI case is postponed by the Supreme Court until September 5

The Supreme Court on Friday (August 23) adjourned the hearing on a plea challenging the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is requesting bail in a case related to the purported Delhi liquor policy scam that was filed with the CBI. The CBI sought time to file a counter affidavit in the case.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan posted the matter for hearing on September 5.

At the start of the hearing, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju sought time to file a counter affidavit in one of Kejriwal’s pleas. He said the CBI’s counter affidavit has already been filed in another petition. On the other hand, senior advocate Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi said a counter affidavit was deliberately filed at 8 pm last night so that it does not reach the bench.

Granting time to the CBI to file a counter affidavit and Kejriwal to file a counter affidavit (if any), the bench adjourned the matter for further hearing on September 5.

The latest plea filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Kejriwal through advocate-on-record Vivek Jain challenges the August 5 order of the Delhi High Court by which a single judge bench had dismissed his plea against arrest by the CBI and granted him liberty to approach the trial court for bail.

Zomato shuts down inter-city delivery service Legends due to ‘lack of product-market fit’

Restaurant aggregator and food delivery platform, Zomato, on August 22 announced the shutdown of its inter-city food delivery service Zomato Legends.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Executive Officer Deepinder Goyal wrote, “Update on Zomato Legends – After two years of trying, due to lack of product market fit, We have made the decision to stop the service right away.

This year, the service was put on hold in April and then resumed in July. Delivering pre-stocked items from other cities with shorter delivery times was the company’s second avatar.

The Legends feature used to offer iconic dishes from 10 cities in other parts of the country. After the shutdown, Zomato’s food delivery service will now operate only within cities.

The announcement comes a day after Zomato announced plans to acquire Paytm’s movie and event ticketing businesses for Rs 2,034 crore on August 21.

The acquisition, approved by Zomato’s board, will allow the food delivery giant to enter the entertainment ticketing space, complementing its existing dine-in and food delivery services.

Zomato reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 175 crore for the quarter ended March 31. The Gurugram-based firm had reported a loss of Rs 189 crore in the year-ago period.

During the fourth quarter (Q4 FY24), the online food aggregator’s revenue from operations stood at Rs 3,562 crore as against Rs 2,056 crore in the same period last year.

Zomato also reported that its Blinkit (quick commerce) business turned adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) positive in March 2024.

Zomato’s gross order value (GOV) – the total value of all orders placed in its core food delivery business – grew 28 per cent during the quarter and Blinkit’s GOV grew 97 per cent.

US bridging proposal for hostage-ceasefire deal meets Israel’s security demands, official tells Times of Israel; says Israel will control Philadelphia Route

US bridging proposal for hostage-ceasefire deal meets Israel’s security demands, official tells Times of Israel; says Israel will control Philadelphia Route

While the likelihood of success of negotiations around the hostage deal remains in doubt, an Israeli official told the Times of Israel that “the prime minister stands behind the principle that Israel will rule the Philadelphia Route.”

The deployment of IDF troops along the Egypt-Gaza border corridor in the event of a deal with Hamas is one of the main issues in the talks.

The official says “there is a reason why we agreed” to the US bridging proposal presented in Doha last week and that it meets Israel’s security demands.

The official stressed that regardless of whether there is a deal or not, Israel will keep fighting to achieve its war goals: “We are fighting Hamas as if there is no negotiation, and we are negotiating as if there is no war.”

“The prime minister’s stance is that we should put military and diplomatic pressure on Hamas to reach an agreement,” the official added. “Military pressure continues along with diplomatic pressure from mediating countries.”

The official stressed that the agreement does not mean the war is over.

“We will not stop fighting until Hamas accepts a settlement,” the official declared.

“Even if they succeed, the war will continue,” the official declared. “Of course, there will be a brief break in fighting during the first phase if an agreement is reached. However, we won’t stop fighting until we’ve accomplished every war objective.
