Lone JDU MLA in Manipur withdraws support to BJP govt, party expels

Lone JDU MLA in Manipur withdraws support to BJP govt, party expels

HimanshuBiren Singh, the chief of the JDU unit of Manipur, has written a letter to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla informing him of the development.

In a surprise development, the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) has withdrawn support from the N Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur and its lone MLA will sit on the Opposition benches.

Though the development will have no impact on the stability of the government, it is a strong message as the JDU is a key ally of the BJP at the Centre and in Bihar. The development comes months after the Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party withdrew support from the Biren Singh government, which is in power in Meghalaya.

The JDU won six seats in the 2022 assembly elections in Manipur, but five MLAs joined the BJP a few months after the election, strengthening the ruling party’s numbers. The BJP currently has 37 MLAs in the 60-member assembly. It has the support of five Naga People’s Front MLAs and three independent MLAs, giving it a comfortable majority. Manipur JDU unit chief K.S. Biren Singh has written a letter to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla informing him of the development. In the assembly elections held in Manipur in February/March, 2022, six candidates fielded by the Janata Dal (United) were returned.

After a few months, five MLAs of the Janata Dal (United) joined the BJP. The case against the five MLAs is pending in the Speaker’s tribunal under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution. After the Janata Dal (United) became part of the Bharat Bloc, the Janata Dal (United) withdrew support to the BJP-led government by informing the Hon’ble Governor, Leader of the House (Chief Minister) and the Speaker’s office. “Thus, the lone Janata Dal (United) MLA in Manipur, Mohammed Abdul Nasir, was made to sit on the Opposition benches by the Speaker in the last session of the Assembly,” the letter said.

It further said, “It is hereby reiterated that the Janata Dal (United), Manipur unit does not support the BJP-led state government in Manipur, and our lone MLA, Mohammed Abdul Nasir, will be treated as an Opposition MLA in the House.” Nitish Kumar’s JDU, which won 12 seats in this year’s general election, is among the key allies whose support helped the BJP reach the majority mark after a drop in its tally this time. The BJP and JDU are also allies in Bihar, where assembly elections are due this year. JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, known for his ups and downs amid political divide, returned to the NDA fold last year after he was one of the key players in India’s opposition bloc.

Israel-Hamas ceasefire live updates:

Israel-Hamas ceasefire live updates:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday accused Hamas of backtracking on some details of the Gaza ceasefire deal, blocking its approval by the Israeli government.

Netanyahu’s statement came a day after US President Joe Biden and Qatar’s PM announced the deal that will halt the devastating 15-month-long war in Gaza and pave the way for the release of dozens of hostages. Earlier, the Qatari Prime Minister confirmed that the ceasefire in Gaza will begin on Sunday and 33 Israeli hostages will be released in the first phase of the ceasefire, AFP reported.

The United States, Egypt and Qatar have tried to mediate an end to the war that began with Hamas’ attack on Israel in October 2023 last year. During months of talks, both sides had previously said they were close to a ceasefire but faced last-minute hurdles. The war on Gaza erupted after Hamas launched its deadliest attack on Israel to date on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 1,210 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP count. Hamas also took 251 Israelis hostage during the attack, 94 of whom are still held hostage in Gaza, including 34 whom the Israeli military says are dead.

In response, Israel’s campaign in Gaza has killed 46,707 people, most of them civilians, according to data from the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry. The fighting has left much of Gaza in ruins and displaced 2.3 million of the territory’s pre-war population.

India becomes fourth country to achieve space docking

India becomes fourth country to achieve space docking

India came the fourth country in the world to achieve space docking, a technological feat that underlines its intentions to increase its share in the fast- growing$ 400 billion global space request.

Two satellites of the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO), Target and Chaser, about the size of a large refrigerator, successfully docked with each other at around 9 am( 0330 GMT), an agency prophet said.

The indigenous technology, pivotal for satellite servicing, space station operations and interplanetary operations, prepares India for a crucial part in marketable and exploratory space sweats.

Astrophysicist Jayant Murthy stated, “India has planned ambitious operations and to achieve them, this is a critical technology.”
” colorful operations like erecting a space station bear assembly in space, which is n’t possible without space docking.”

ISRO said the two satellites sharing in its Space Docking trial( Spadex) will now be controlled as a single object, and power transfer will be checked over the coming many days. The charge was laid over doubly, first because the docking process demanded further evidence through ground simulations, and also to resolve a problem arising from inordinate drift between the satellites. Spadex, launched on December 30 from India’s main spaceport, put the satellites into route with an Indian- erected rocket.

Among the 24 loads and trials were eight cowpea seeds, transferred into space to study factory growth in microgravity conditions, which germinated within four days of the charge’s launch. Scientists say this is a significant step that shows that food can ultimately be grown in space during long operations. The charge will also demonstrate the transfer of electrical power between docked spacecraft, which is important for operations similar as robotics in space, overall spacecraft control and cargo operations after undocking. similar technologies are essential for operations taking multiple rocket launches.

Space disquisition and commercialisation are a crucial part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sweats to establish India as a global superpower. Modi said at X that the successful SpadeX charge was” an important step for India’s ambitious space operations in the coming times.” On Thursday, India approved the setting up of a third launch pad in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, to be completed in four times at a cost of 39.85 billion rupees($ 461 million), giving a farther boost to its space plans.

The process involves adopting a stock, incontinently dealing it, and also buying it back when its value falls to fund the difference.

HMPV Explained: Symptoms, Transmission, and Protective Measures

HMPV Explained: Symptoms, Transmission, and Protective Measures

1. Introduction
Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus that is causing concerns due to a recent rise in cases around the world, including in India. Similar to other respiratory illnesses, it spreads quickly and can cause serious problems, especially for vulnerable groups like young children and older adults. This article explains the global and Indian situation and how we can protect ourselves.
2. What is HMPV?
This is a virus that causes infection in lungs and airways. It spreads from one person to another through tiny droplets in the air when someone coughs or sneezes. It’s most dangerous for people with weak immune systems, young children, and the elderly. Symptoms are often similar to a bad cold or flu, but it can lead to more serious breathing problems.
3. The Global Scenario
HMPV cases have been rising worldwide, with many countries reporting outbreaks. While it’s not as well-known as the flu or COVID-19, it can be just as serious for some people. In certain regions, hospitals have seen an increase in patients with respiratory issues linked to this virus.
4. HMPV Outbreak in India
In India, the virus has been spreading in several states, affecting people of all ages but hitting children and the elderly the hardest. Overcrowded places and a lack of awareness make it easier for the virus to spread. The government and healthcare providers are working on identifying and isolating cases while spreading awareness about prevention.
5. Symptoms and Diagnosis
HMPV symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, wheezing, and trouble breathing. In extreme situations, it will lead to pneumonia. Diagnosing HMPV typically involves medical tests like RT-PCR, but doctors may also recognize it based on symptoms, especially during an outbreak.
6. Preventive Measures
For individuals: Avoid close contact with sick people, wear masks in busy areas, and wash your hands frequently. Eating healthy and exercising can also strengthen your immunity.
For communities: Governments and local organizations can run awareness drives, provide testing facilities, and enforce isolation for infected individuals.
Vaccination: While there’s no specific vaccine yet, ongoing research could make one available in the future.

Global Preparedness
Surveillance Systems
Organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are strengthening global surveillance networks to detect outbreaks early.
Real-time tracking of respiratory viruses, including HMPV, is helping identify hotspots and prevent widespread transmission.

Vaccine and Treatment Research
Research is underway globally to develop vaccines and specific antiviral treatments for HMPV.
Collaboration among pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and governments is accelerating the process, similar to efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Global Collaboration
Countries are sharing data and expertise to understand the virus better. For example, genomic sequencing of HMPV strains is being shared internationally to track mutations.
Partnerships through platforms like GAVI (The Vaccine Alliance) and CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) are focusing on vaccine development and equitable distribution.

Awareness Campaigns
Global health bodies are running campaigns to educate the public about respiratory infections, hygiene practices, and when to seek medical help.
Training programs for healthcare workers on handling HMPV and similar outbreaks are being expanded.

Indian Preparedness

Improving Healthcare Infrastructure
The Indian government has been investing in strengthening healthcare systems, especially in rural areas, where access to medical facilities is limited.
New diagnostic tools for respiratory illnesses, including affordable testing for HMPV, are being introduced in public healthcare settings.

Disease Monitoring and Reporting
India has established systems like the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) to track outbreaks.
State-level health departments are being trained to quickly report and respond to new cases of HMPV.

Vaccination Development
Indian research institutes like the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and pharmaceutical companies are collaborating to develop vaccines for respiratory viruses, including HMPV.
Lessons learned from the COVID-19 vaccine rollout are being used to prepare for future vaccine distribution.

Community Awareness and Education
Campaigns through local health workers and media channels are educating people about respiratory infections and the importance of hygiene.
Schools and workplaces are being involved in spreading awareness about prevention.

Policy and Funding
The Indian government is allocating more funds for epidemic preparedness under programs like the National Health Mission (NHM).
Policies are being updated to include newer diseases like HMPV in routine health guidelines.

Future Focus Areas
Strengthening Primary Healthcare: Ensuring every district has access to well-equipped healthcare facilities for early diagnosis and treatment.
Enhancing Research and Development: Increasing investment in research labs for quick development of diagnostic tools and vaccines.
Building Public-Private Partnerships: Encouraging private companies to collaborate with public health bodies for faster innovation and distribution.
Preparedness Drills: Regular drills to simulate outbreak scenarios, ensuring systems are ready to respond quickly. In conclusion, while global and Indian preparedness has improved over the years, the HMPV outbreak serves as a reminder that consistent investment in healthcare, research, and education is essential. By combining global collaboration with localized efforts, future outbreaks can be better managed and controlled.

Conclusion
HMPV is a growing concern, but by following preventive steps and staying informed, we can protect ourselves and our communities. It’s everyone’s responsibility to take small steps, like practicing hygiene and spreading awareness, to control the spread of this virus.

Q&A
Q: What is the treatment of HMPV?
A: There is no specific treatment or antiviral medication for HMPV right now. Doctors usually focus on easing the symptoms, like giving medications to reduce fever, manage coughing, or help with breathing. In severe cases, like when someone has trouble breathing, oxygen support or hospitalization might be needed. Staying hydrated and getting plenty of rest also helps in recovery.

Q: Is HMPV contagious?
A: Yes, HMPV is contagious. It spreads from person to person through tiny droplets when someone infected coughs, sneezes, or talks. You can also catch it by touching a surface contaminated with the virus and then touching your face, especially your nose, mouth, or eyes. That’s why washing hands and maintaining hygiene are so important.

Q: Is HMPV a serious disease?
A: HMPV can range from mild to serious. For most people, it causes symptoms similar to a cold, like a cough, runny nose, and fever. But for infants, elderly people, and those with weak immune systems, it can lead to serious problems like pneumonia or bronchitis. If treated early, most cases can be managed well, but ignoring severe symptoms can make it dangerous.
