India created history by winning its second ODI World Cup title in 2011 at the Wankhede Stadium. Thanks to captain MS Dhoni’s unbeaten innings of 91 runs, India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final and won the prestigious World Cup trophy at home. While chasing the target of 275 runs, India lost important wickets of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar in the beginning.
However, thanks to Gautam Gambhir’s innings of 97 runs and Dhoni’s unbeaten innings of 91 runs, India won the ODI World Cup title after 28 years. However, you might be surprised to know that the bat used by Dhoni during the iconic World Cup final was sold for a whopping price.
According to reports, three months after the World Cup win, Mumbai-based brokerage firm RK Global bought MS Dhoni’s Reebok labelled bat for £100,000 (around Rs 72 lakh at the time) at an auction in London.
The main purpose of the event was to raise funds for MS Dhoni’s wife’s charitable organisation, Sakshi Foundation, which aids underprivileged children in the country.
