Maha Kumbh Mela to begin in India, largest gathering of humanity

PRAYAGRAJ, India, Jan 12( Reuters)- India begins the six- week Maha Kumbh Mela, or Great Ewer Festival, on Monday, a Hindu holy event that will be the world’s largest gathering of humanity as it blends religion, church, tourism and crowd operation.

The six- week-long show in the Uttar Pradesh megacity of Prayagraj is anticipated to draw further than 400 million people who’ll take a holy dip at the convergence of three sacred gutters- the Ganges, the Yamuna and the fabulous, unnoticeable Saraswati. Devout Hindus believe a dip in the holy water wetlands down one’s sins and also brings emancipation from the cycle of life and death during the Kumbh Mela. The jubilee has its roots in a Hindu tradition according to which Lord Vishnu wrested a golden ewer filled with the quencher of eternity from demons.

Four drops fell on earth in the 12- day elysian battle, in the metropolises of Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, where the jubilee is famed alternatively every three times. The Kumbh, held formerly every 12 times in this cycle, has the prefix’ Maha'( great) because it’s considered more auspicious due to its timing and draws the largest crowds.
