Kharge hits out at Centre for ‘disappointing budget’, says allocations to Bihar and Andhra made to please allies to save govt

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday termed the Seventh Budget 2024-25 as a “disappointing budget” and said they have made special allocations to Bihar and Andhra Pradesh only to please their allies JDU and TDP so that they can save govt.

After Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament, the Congress president said, “They made the budget only to please one or two people (JDU and TDP) so that they can save their government.”

Accusing the BJP-led central government of neglecting other states in its budget, Kharge said there are some areas which need more emphasis in this budget.

Pointing to the recent rail accidents, Kharge said the NDA government has made a very weak rail budget. “Railways have become ‘neither here nor there’. Railways need several reforms including passenger safety, track reconstruction and resolving problems of railway police and officers. Furthermore, they have not provided any funding for the growth of the coach manufacturing businesses that we established in Karnataka. Their railway budget is extremely inadequate.”
