The Canadian leader announced his resignation at a news conference at Rideau Cottage this morning (local time).
Justin Trudeau informed reporters, “I plan to step down as Prime Minister and party leader.” He claimed that after consulting with his wife and kids, he made the decision to resign.
He said he asked the Canadian Governor-General to adjourn Parliament because important decisions had not been made and the institution had become ‘paralysed’.
He also called himself a “fighter” and claimed that his opponent and Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre, who is set to defeat his Liberal Party in the next election, is not the “right” leader to lead Canada, citing his views on climate change and economic issues.
