India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 Match Highlights: Sri Lanka looked set to stun world champions India while chasing a target of 214 as Pathum Nissanka smashed 79 off 48 balls. However, Sri Lanka crumbled after he was dismissed by Axar Patel in the 15th over. Sri Lanka were 140/1 at the start of the 15th over, which went down to 163/7 by the 18th over. Riyan Parag took the last wicket off the first two balls of the last over and India won by 43 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav had earlier smashed 58 off 26 balls in his first match as India’s full-time T20 captain, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill shared a blistering 74-run partnership in the first six overs as India posted 213/7 after batting first in the first T20I against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. Suryakumar made up for Rishabh Pant’s struggle in the middle overs and the Indian captain completed his 20th T20I half-century off just 22 balls. He was then trapped LBW by Mathesha Pathirana and went on to score 58 off 26 balls. Pathirana then sent Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag to the pavilion with his brilliant yorkers.
After India lost the toss, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill wreaked havoc on Sri Lanka. Gill usually stays back and Jaiswal hits boundaries, but this time both players focused on bowling and India managed to score more than 70 runs in the powerplay. Gill was dismissed on the last ball of the sixth over by Dilshan Madushanka for 34 runs off 16 balls. Jaiswal was then dismissed on the first ball of the next over by Wanindu Hasaranga. Their opening partnership produced 74 runs off just 36 balls.
