FBI investigating after Trump campaign hacked by Iran

The US FBI said on Monday it is investigating after Donald Trump’s presidential campaign reported internal communications hacked and blamed the Iranian government.
On Saturday, the former president stated that Microsoft had notified his campaign that one of its websites had been hacked by Iran. Iran “only able to obtain publicly available information,” he claimed.

The Trump campaign was not hacked, according to the Iranian government.

Trump’s campaign has pointed to a report by Microsoft researchers on Friday that indicated hackers linked to the Iranian government tried to break into the account of a “high-ranking official” of the US presidential campaign in June.

The report said the hackers took over the account of a former political adviser and then used it to target the official. It did not provide further details about the identity of the targets.
