72 Ministers sworn in in Modi 3.0, 9 new faces included in Cabinet

Along with 72 other ministers from the new coalition government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took an oath of office today. Thirty of these hold Cabinet positions, five hold independent responsibility, and thirty are Ministers of State.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today took oath along with 72 ministers of the new coalition government. Of these, thirty are Cabinet ministers, five with independent charge and 36 Ministers of State. The portfolios will be announced later.

The 73-year-old PM Modi will lead a coalition government for the first time in his third term or Modi 3.0 since he became Prime Minister in 2014 after he led a massive “Brand Modi” victory to the end of 10 years of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule.

He is the second Prime Minister to be elected for a third consecutive term after Jawaharlal Nehru.

The swearing-in ceremony is taking place on the lawns of Rashtrapati Bhavan, with the Meteorological Department predicting a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius in the national capital.It was President Draupadi Murmu who gave PM Modi the oath. After them, Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah took oath. Nitin Gadkari was the fourth leader to be sworn in by the President. After this, JP Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar and Manohar Lal Khattar took oath.
