Zomato will introduce District, a new app for “going out” businesses.

Zomato, in an ambitious move beyond its core food delivery services and hyper commerce, announced the launch of ‘District’, a new app on August 1. The app consolidates the “going out” business, including dining and ticketing (movies and events).

The move, unveiled in a letter to shareholders by CEO Deepinder Goyal, marks Zomato’s entry into a wide range of lifestyle services, including dining out, movies, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping, staycations and more – all within a single platform.

Today, Zomato and Blinkit are two of our largest consumer businesses, serving the needs of customers at home. However, we also have one of India’s largest ‘going out’ businesses, which helps our customers find restaurants to eat out at,” Goyal said, without specifying when the app would be available for download.

The business is operating at a rate of over $500 million annual gross order value (GOV) and is already profitable, he added.
