World’s first CNG bike Bajaj Freedom launched in India: Price, features, mileage and more

Bajaj Auto has launched the Freedom 125, the world’s first motorcycle that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG). The 125cc commuter bike runs on both petrol and CNG, aiming to significantly reduce operating costs for this category of riders. Priced between ₹95,000 and ₹1.10 lakh (ex-showroom), bookings for the Freedom 125 have begun today. With intentions to export to markets including Egypt, Tanzania, Peru, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, the first rollout will take place in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

The Freedom 125 is designed for cost-conscious consumers, claiming a 50 per cent reduction in fuel costs compared to its counterparts. The motorcycle has a handlebar-mounted switch that allows riders to switch between different types of fuel. It also has a small petrol tank and a CNG cylinder. The CNG cylinder located under the petrol tank seamlessly blends in with the bike’s design, making it stand out from other models. The motorcycle has separate filler nozzles for CNG and petrol, catering to their different storage requirements. The CNG tank holds two kilograms, whereas the gasoline tank holds two liters.

Bajaj claims that the Freedom 125 can cover up to 213 km on CNG alone, with an additional 117 km provided by the petrol tank, giving a total range of 330 km. For CNG, fuel efficiency is rated at 102 km/kg, while for gasoline, it is 64 km/l.
