Supreme Court refuses interim relief to Arvind Kejriwal, issues notice to CBI in Delhi excise policy case
The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to grant interim relief to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) linked to the excise policy scam. The court also issued notice to the central probe agency and said Kejriwal will remain in jail till August 23.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan heard the petitions of the Aam Aadmi Party convenor challenging the CBI’s arrest and seeking bail.
The Delhi High Court had on August 5 upheld the chief minister’s arrest and said there was no malice in the acts of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which shows how the AAP supremo can influence witnesses who could muster courage to testify only after his arrest.
The High Court had asked him to approach the trial court for regular bail in the CBI case.
