Sensex Today Live | Stock market updates: After volatility in the early hours, India’s benchmark stock indices were down on Monday afternoon. Auto companies declined, while IT and pharma companies saw gains. At 12:05 pm, the Sensex was down 200 points or 0.30% at 65,595.03, while the Nifty50 was down 50 points or 0.25% at 19,681.70.
IT stocks witnessed sustained gains, with HCL Technologies the top Sensex 30 gainer, rising over 1 per cent. Wipro, TCS and Tech Mahindra were the other notable players. Mahindra & Mahindra. Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were down around 2%, while Tata Motors dropped 1.5%.
Stocks in Asia edged higher on Monday after modest gains on Wall Street on Friday as optimism remained that the Federal Reserve will soon end its interest rate hikes.
Indices in South Korea and Australia rose while Japan’s Nikkei 225 index was trading at a 33-year high. U.S. futures were little changed after the S&P 500 rose above 4,500 on Friday, posting a third straight week of gains – the longest since July.
