SBI hands over complete electoral bond data to Election Commission, files compliance affidavit in Supreme Court

“In compliance with the directions of the Honorable Supreme Court, SBI has provided data related to electoral bonds to the ECI today i.e. March 21, 2024,” the Election Commission said in a post on Twitter.

“ECI has uploaded it on its website from SBI on basis, of  two PDFs containing all the data received from the bank have been uploaded,” the poll panel said while sharing a link on its website.

While the latest donor list contains the name of the buyer of the bond, its value and unique number, the recipient list contains the name of the party that has redeemed it, the quantity of bonds redeemed, and the final four digits of the bank account numbers of the political parties who did so. Currency and distinct number of.

The bank withheld full bank account numbers and KYC details of political parties that redeemed the bonds, citing security reasons. It added that complete bank account numbers and KYC details are not necessary for “identification of political parties”.

“Similarly, KYC details of buyers are also not being made public due to security reasons, except for the fact that such information is not fed/compiled into the system. However, they are not necessary for identification of political parties,” The bank’s chairperson Dinesh Kumar Khara said in the affidavit filed by the bank.

The disclosure comes days after the Supreme Court asked SBI to stop being “selective” in releasing details related to the electoral bond scheme. The top court said that there is no doubt that SBI needs to make full disclosure of all the details held by it.
