‘I should have been dead… I’m still here’: Former US President Donald Trump recalls horrific incident of rally shooting

The 78-year-old Republican presidential frontrunner was shot in the ear by a gunman at a campaign rally on Saturday. His face was covered in blood, while a passerby was killed and two others were injured.
Donald Trump, the former US president, said he “should have died” to the New York Post on Sunday after describing the assassination attempt as a “very surreal experience.”

“I shouldn’t have been here, I should have been dead,” Trump said. “I should have been dead.”

Trump told the Post in an interview on a plane en route to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, where he is to be confirmed as the party’s presidential nominee.

It was a “very surreal experience”, he told the newspaper, with a white bandage covering his right ear.

The 78-year-old Republican presidential frontrunner was shot in the ear by a gunman at a campaign rally on Saturday. The bullet left his face bloodied, while a passerby was killed and two others injured. The former US president said it would have been a fatal shot if he had not turned his head slightly to the right to read a chart on illegal immigrants, but instead the bullet tore off a small part of his ear and splattered blood on his forehead and cheek.
