‘I beat him so badly’: Trump claims Biden’s exit from 2024 race was result of ‘coup’ after debate
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday said US President Joe Biden was forced out of the 2024 election race due to a “coup”.
In an interview with X owner Elon Musk, Trump claimed Biden’s performance in the debate was so decisive that he was forced to withdraw.
“I had the best debate performance ever, defeating Biden so badly that he had to withdraw from the race. “Biden’s resignation was a coup,” Trump exclaimed.
Trump’s debate reference is from June, when he and Biden – before the Democratic leader decided to withdraw from the presidential race – faced off in their first debate of the 2024 election cycle ahead of the November vote.
In the interview, Trump also informed Musk that if Biden hadn’t been president, Russia would not have invaded Ukraine. He claimed that the conflict might have been avoided thanks to his close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump said, “I had a great relationship with Putin and he respected me.” He also claimed he had warned Putin against taking any action, saying, “But I told him, don’t do it.”
