BSNL AP reports 1 lakh SIM activations in just 20 days
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Andhra Pradesh (AP) has recorded the milestone of 1 lakh SIM activations in 23 days. This past Saturday, BSNL Andhra Pradesh made the announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter. However, no information was shared on whether these activations are direct or through MNP. In May, BSNL announced the launch of its indigenous 4G technology in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, which will soon be rolled out across the state.
Talking about BSNL, which is in the process of rolling out 4G services, the minister said that the telecom company is setting up monitoring units with key vendor Tejas Networks, C-DOT, TCS and others. “…we are moving towards setting up one lakh RANs (radio access networks) which we need (for BSNL),” he said. BSNL’s 4G network has been built using locally manufactured technology. The minister said it would have been much easier for the company to use technology developed by others but it took the indigenous route.”…India should not only be a supplier of services, we should also be a supplier of products,” he stated. The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) is implementing its own 4G/5G stack with the assistance of BSNL, which in 2023 will award a contract for Rs 24,500 crore to a consortium headed by TCS. By December 2024, the telecom provider will roll out 4G services, according to the government.
