CBI takes over probe into NEET paper leak case to unearth “larger conspiracy”: Sources

The CBI took over the probe after the government — which had initially ruled out the possibility of a paper leak — announced that the investigation would be handed over to a central agency

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a fresh case in connection with the alleged paper leak in medical entrance exam NEET following a complaint by the Human Resource Ministry, which has taken over the probe. The fresh case alleges cheating and criminal conspiracy against unknown persons. The accused arrested by the states will also be taken into custody, sources said. The ministry has asked the CBI to probe the conduct of the exam and the role, if any, of public servants involved in the “larger conspiracy”, sources said.

The CBI took over the probe after the government — which had initially ruled out the possibility of a paper leak — announced that the probe would be handed over to a central agency.

Allegations of irregularities, including cheating, copying and other malpractices, were levelled after the NEET-UG 2024 results were declared on June 4.

Since then, student protests have been going on across the country, aggravated by the opposition, and the issue has turned into a major political controversy.
