Kharge said ‘India will fight against the fascist government of the BJP led by Modi’, inviting all those who have ‘commitment to the Constitution’.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said in a press conference on June 5 that the India Bloc will include “all parties who have commitment to the values enshrined in our Constitution.”

“India Bloc will continue to fight against the fascist government of the BJP led by Modi. We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to fulfill the desire of the people not to be ruled by a BJP government,” Kharge said. This happened when members of the loosely affiliated group in the afternoon of June 5 discussed the possibilities of government formation and the possibility of approaching former allies Nitish Kumar (JD(U) in Bihar) and N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP in Andhra Pradesh). The development came as the BJP-led NDA held a meeting and prepared to stake claim to form the government. The India Bloc has secured 233 seats in the recently concluded 2024 Lok Sabha elections and is highly unlikely to form government with the support of TDP and JD(U).

Mandate against PM Modi, says Kharge

“The mandate is decisively against Prime Minister Modi as well as the essence and style of his politics. This is a huge political loss for him personally, at the same time it is a clear moral defeat. However, he is determined to thwart the will of the people,” said Kharge at a press conference after the bloc’s meeting ended. He also reiterated the opposition group’s willingness to approach allies outside the grouping.

“This is a mandate to protect India’s Constitution and to save democracy against price increases, unemployment, and crony capitalism,” Kharge declared. The Bharat Bloc is determined to resist Modi’s fascist BJP rule. We will act properly at the appropriate time to fulfill the people’s desire to be freed from BJP rule. We have taken this decision, fully concur with the points brought forth, and will honor our pledge to the public.”

The meeting at Kharge’s Delhi residence was attended by several top leaders of various alliance parties, including Bharat Alliance leaders Tejashwi Yadav, Raghav Chadha, Sharad Pawar, D Raja, Sanjay Raut, Akhilesh Yadav and Champai Soren.
