Oppenheimer filmmaker Christopher Nolan to receive UK knighthood for ‘services to film’

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan, fresh from an Oscar win for “Oppenheimer,” is set to receive a knighthood from Britain for his “services to film,” the British government announced Thursday.

Following the release of his newly unveiled wax statue, Allu Arjun’s selfie went viral on the internet.

Nolan wrote the screenplay for the Oscar-winning “Oppenheimer” and produced it with his wife Thomas.

The historical drama “Oppenheimer” is a biopic about the race to create the first atomic bomb. The blockbuster won seven Academy Awards earlier this month, including the Best Picture trophy and Nolan’s first Best Director Academy Award.

Other highly regarded films from the British-American filmmaker’s career are “Interstellar,” “Inception,” “Dunkirk” and the Batman trilogy.

On Thursday, the British government released a list of honorees recommended by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that also included Conservative politicians and tech industry leaders.

What is knighthood in Britain?
According to The Royal Family website, a kingship or damehood is one of the highest honors in the United Kingdom. It is usually given to people who have made significant contributions in their field, usually at the national level.

Here is a list of the other recipients of Britain’s Honorary Awards this year:
Apart from Christopher Nolan, Google’s DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis will receive a knighthood from the UK government.

Billionaire businessman and Conservative Party donor Mohammed Mansour was knighted for business, charity and political service.

Several of Sunak’s Conservative MPs were also awarded knighthoods – Philip Davis and Mark Spencer.

Conservative MPs who have been awarded damehood are Tracey Crouch and Harriet Baldwin.

Commander of the Order of the British Empire
British government AI advisor Matthew Clifford and entrepreneur Ian Hogarth, president of the AI Safety Institute, were among those awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) to pioneer the world of artificial intelligence.
